The Telegraph report that former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is open to joining Newcastle amid links with a free agent move to St James’ Park.
De Gea has been without a club since his contract at Old Trafford expired in the summer but he could be given a short-term opportunity after Nick Pope’s injury on Saturday.
Pope injured his shoulder when diving for a shot against Man United and it will now require surgery that will keep him out of the team for at least the next four months.
Martin Dubravka will be the immediate replacement and looks set to start at Everton on Thursday night, but the club could look to De Gea as a potential option if the Slovakian fails to impress Eddie Howe over our hectic run of fixtures in league, cup and Europe this month.
De Gea is believed to be keen on the move although his wages, which were £375,000 per week at Man United, may cause a problem. It’s fair to say his previous salary would need to be cut in half – and more – if we pursued him on a ‘free.’
After six months as a free agent, David De Gea is open to answering an emergency call from Newcastle#TelegraphFootball | #NUFC

Dubravka is good keeper, and with a run of games should be enough to keep us going, but just imagine if he got injured………………..we would have Karius between the sticks. that doesn’t bare thinking about. We need some sort of back up and De Gea wouldn’t be the worst choice. that being said, i doubt these rumours are true.
