With the January transfer window opening in just a few weeks, it’s no surprise to see a number of players linked with mid-season moves to St James’ Park.
Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that Newcastle and Liverpool are both showing interest in RB Leipzig forward Lois Openda, while Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport claim we’re keen on Argentine winger Matias Soule.
Openda is a lightning-quick striker able to play up top or out wide. He’s scored 14 goals in 21 appearances for the Bundesliga side this season, including four goals in their five Champions League group games so far.
The 23-year-old Belgian international wouldn’t come cheap, but he’d add pace to our attack; which currently looks light on options with Callum Wilson, Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy currently sidelined through injury.
As for Soule, the Juventus talent is currently impressing during a loan spell with Serie A side Frosinone, scoring six goals in 12 appearances.
Gazzetta report that the right winger may be allowed to leave Juve if a concrete offer of around ‘ €20-25m’ arrives in January, although that would require him to be recalled from his loan spell first.
