Sky Italy: Champions League rivals handed major boost ahead of St James’ Park decider

Over the past month, AC Milan have been without star man Rafael Leao; the Portuguese winger who caused us all sorts of problems in our 0-0 draw at the San Siro in our opening group game.

Unfortunately for us, Sky Italy report that the forward has recovered from a thigh injury and looks set to return for next week’s Champions League decider at St James’ Park.

The latest medical tests show the 24-year-old has finally recovered from his injury, allowing him to rejoin first-team training. If he comes through sessions over the comings days, it’s believed he could even return for their trip to Atalanta on Saturday.

Leao gave Trippier a tough time in September’s stalemate in Milan, with his power, pace and silky dribbling causing real problems. We hung on in the end and took a precious point from the San Siro, but he is their danger man and the one player we must contain when they come to Tyneside next week.

The permutations heading into our final game of Group F are as follows:

  • We’ll come 2nd if we win and PSG don’t win (a PSG draw sees us pip them on the H2H record)
  • We’ll come 3rd if we win and PSG win
  • We’ll come 3rd if we draw
  • We’ll come 4th if we lose
