According to Mark Douglas at iNews, Fabian Schar and Joelinton will miss Newcastle’s next TWO games at the very minimum, ruling them out of tonight’s cup quarter-final at Chelsea and Saturday’s Premier League trip to Luton.
Howe is hopeful that both are minor knocks after the pair were forced off in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Fulham. That may still be true, but it seems certain they won’t play again until after Christmas.
Elsewhere, Douglas reports that Dan Burn, Sean Longstaff and Callum Wilson are ‘not 100% fit’ and have been forced to push through in recent weeks to help out his injury-riddled squad, but all three are in the travelling party.
Howe plans to field the strongest side possible – Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier are expected to play – and there’ll be no rest for Lewis Miley, who will be needed again with Joelinton, Joe Willock, Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson all missing in midfield.
Harvey Barnes has suffered a setback and won’t be back until late January, but late decisions will be made on Alexander Isak and Sven Botman, with the former managing a groin problem an the latter pushing for his first start in three months after coming on late on Saturday.
