Over the past few weeks, one midfielder who has been continually linked with a potential move to Newcastle United is Atalanta’s Ederson.
Back in November, we covered a story from Italy that stated Newcastle were ‘very interested’ in the 24-year-old Brazilian, while reports in his homeland just last week claimed that we’ve been in ‘constant contact’ with both the Serie A side and the player’s entourage. Even today, TuttoMercatoWeb report that chief scout Steve Nickson went to watch Ederson in action in their 5-0 win over Frosinone on Monday night.
Who knows if it’s a deal we can realistically pursue this month given our FFP constraints, but it’s interesting to see what South American football expert Tim Vickery had to say when asked about Ederson and ongoing links with Newcastle during his appearances on Sky Sports News this week.
Watch what he had to say below, where hails the midfielder’s power, personality and quality on the ball, also revealing how his character shone during some tough times at Cruzeiro:
"He is 24-years-old, strong and well built central midfielder" 👤

Ederson has been Atalanta’s standout player so far this season, scoring six goals so far from midfield. It sounds like he’d pass character checks and his stock is on the rise in Italy, so it’ll be interesting to see if we do pursue a deal, whether it be this month or the summer.
