Dan Ashworth plans to sign Newcastle target for Man Utd if he’s appointed in time – Report

According to The Telegraph, Dan Ashworth will recommend Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi to Manchester United should he be appointed at Old Trafford in time for the summer transfer window.

Matt Law reports that Ashworth had been keen to bring the centre-back to St James’ Park and is known to be a huge fan of the England international.

Newcastle have been on the lookout for a long-term replacement for Fabian Schar for some time, highlighting the immediate issues we could face if our former sporting director moves to Man Utd ahead of the summer.

The same piece reports that Liverpool are also keen on the former Chelsea talent, with new Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner facing a battle to keep Guehi at Selhurst Park.

It’s claimed Ashworth will revive his interest in the 23-year-old if he’s appointed in time, although he’s currently on gardening leave until January 2026 and will only be in a position to start work at Old Trafford if they pay the hefty compensation package Newcastle are demanding.

  1. Olly :-
Gardening leave or not I don’t see how they could stop information or recommendations being passed on one way or another.

  2. I said it yesterday that this would be the course of action the 💩 journalists in the summer
Every Man Utd signing would be a one stolen from us i.e. Lazy journalism.

  3. Garden leave or sitting on a beach in Australia Does it matter. It’s all a load of bolocks as everyone is interested in him anyway He is hardly raw talent and will cost 50 million Ashworth develops the structure of the club and isn’t too involved with the bigger transfers Otherwise no club would touch him after the Tonali debacle

  4. It’s a pointless tactic. Gardening leave won’t protect any data or lists being shared. The horse has bolted as they say. If he wanted that data on the laptop he will long since have taken it.
