Bruno Guimaraes has recommended former teammate Raphael Veiga to Newcastle United, believing he ‘would fit in’ well in English football.
Our midfield maestro played alongside Veiga back in 2018 during their time together at Athletico-PR. Since then, the attacking midfielder has shone at Palmeiras, bagging 84 goals and 34 assists in 260 appearances for the club.
Speaking to ESPN Brasil, he was asked to name a player from his homeland who could make the step up to the Premier League and had this to say:
“He’s one of the names that would fit in here. He takes corners well, shoots from distance, has a good set piece. We were together in 2018 at Athletico-PR.
“I think he could have a very good future if he comes to Europe.”
It’s clear Newcastle United are scouring the South American market, with a host of Brazilian and Argentinian youngsters linked with moves to St James’ Park over the past 18 months.
However, it seems we’ll target future stars who could make the step up, not a 28-year-old Veiga who is yet to play in Europe.
