Bookies release new top-six odds as Newcastle close in on Man Utd and Brighton slip up

It was a big weekend for Newcastle United on so many fronts, as we not only won our first home game since mid December, but delivered a much-improved performance, kept a clean sheet an closed the gap on Man Utd in sixth.

After the Red Devils lost 3-1 at Man City on Sunday, we are now just four points behind Erik ten Hag’s side in the race for a top-six finish.

Our win – which saw us leapfrog Wolves – also coincided with Brighton’s 3-0 defeat at Fulham, while Chelsea also dropped points from a winning position by drawing 2-2 at Brentford.

As a result, the bookies are now pricing us at 3/1 to finish in the top six, with Brighton slipping to 14/1. The bookmakers seem to think Aston Villa (1/66) and Spurs (1/25) are guaranteed to keep their places and seem to think that final place in the top six is between Man Utd, ourselves and Chelsea.

As of Monday, these are Sky Bet’s odds for a top-six finish this season, followed by the current Premier League standings around the top half:

  1. Aston Villa – 1/66 or 1.02 (55 points)
  2. Tottenham – 1/25 or 1.04 (50 points)
  3. Man Utd – 4/6 or 1.67 (44 points)
  4. Newcastle – 3/1 or 4.00 (40 points)
  5. Chelsea – 4/1 or 5.00 (36 points)
  6. Brighton – 14/1 or 15.00 (39 points)
  7. West Ham – 14/1 or 15.00 (42 points)
  8. Wolves – 40/1 or 41.00 (38 points)
