Bruno Guimaraes drops biggest hint yet on his future during chat with Brazilian media

Bruno Guimaraes has dropped the clearest hint yet about where he sees his future, revealing that he’s eager to stay in the Premier League “for a long time.”

While the international break offers a chance to breathe amid an ever-busier club football schedule, it also can provide a rare glimpse into the thinking of certain players. Fresh off the back of beating England, and Anthony Gordon, 1-0 at Wembley, Bruno spoke to Brazilian press and was asked about his plans for the future.

“It’s always been my dream to play here,” the midfielder told Brazilian media. “I’ve always followed the Premier League. It was always my dream to be here.

“I think, ever since I joined Newcastle, everything has been good in my life professionally and personally. I’m very happy to be playing amongst the best in the best league in the world. I absolutely plan to play here for a long time. I have other goals as well of moving, but this is something more down the line. I’m really happy to be here in the league.”

It is the first and clearest signal that Eddie Howe’s number 39 would like to stay in England for the foreseeable future and will come as a relief to fans worried that his Brazilian compatriots in Madrid may tempt him to move to Spanish giants Real. PSG have also been watching the 26-year-old.

Geordies will hope that Bruno’s desire to stay in England will mean that he continues to boss the midfield for the next few years as the Toon eye a rise to the top of the game, however, it could open the door for suitors like Manchester City to explore a deal for him in the summer. Guardiola is known to admire Bruno and reports suggest City may be willing to trigger the release clause – in the region of £100m – in Bruno’s contract.

Whatever happens, it looks like we will see Bruno playing in the Premier League for a good few more years at least – let’s just hope it’s for us!

  1. You tried to dance around the subject, but his desire to stay in the Premier League doesn’t stop him from playing for 19 other teams.
