New Alexander Isak claims – Arsenal and deluded fans must be having a laugh?

According to The Guardian, Arsenal have identified Alexander Isak as a ‘primary target’ heading into the summer transfer window.

The Swede is without doubt one of the best young strikers on the planet and is Premier League proven, scoring an incredible 17 league goals in 22 starts this term.

The Guardian reckon he could cost in the region of £100m and was heavily scouted by the Gunners during his time at Real Sociedad. I’m sure he was and I’m sure Mikel Arteta would love him, but it feels to me like they’re living in dreamland.

Firstly, Newcastle aren’t about to accept offers of £100m for a player who cost us £63m less than two years ago. He’s got no release clause in his deal, he’s committed to a long-term contract and recently revealed how happy he was on Tyneside, recently insisting he has no plans to leave and is fully invested in the project.

He’s our club record signing and, for me, the most gifted striker in the Premier League. Strikers always come at a premium an we live in a world where Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez cost you £110m. Isak is 24, has quick feet, ice in his veins, incredible movement, pace to burn.

Arsenal (and the London press) need to get real, but some of the comments I’ve read from Gunners fans on social media is even more laughable. Below are genuine comments I found on X (formerly Twitter) from Arsenal fans reacting to the Isak links:

“Give me Isak for £65M in the summer and stop this Ivan Toney, Osimhen nonsense.”

Isak for £65m is an absolute steal and it gives us the leverage to spend on other areas. Please again, @Arsenal”

“Arsenal should be all over Isak this summer considering Newcastle are in FFP mess and need to sell players.”

£65m? In what world will Newcastle agree to make a £2m profit on a player who has excelled in the Premier League two years on from becoming our club-record signing? Even double that wouldn’t be enough.

“Newcastle are in a FFP mess and need to sell.” Yes, like most, we’ve accepted that ‘player trading’ could be key this summer to generate funds an work within PSR, but we don’t want to sell our best players. The likes of Almiron, Wilson and Longstaff could be the players sacrificed, not our star striker who we plan to build around.

We may not keep Isak for years and years to come – competing at the top and getting back in the Champions League could be key in the coming seasons – but Arsenal appear to be living in fantasy land and won’t be signing him this summer.

  1. Oh no, what will make Newcastle fans happy is watching the deluded Gunners fall short again this season & will sweet FA 😂.

Watching your lot bottle it again after all the big chat this season 😂

  2. You’re gonna be busy if you continue to write snarky articles every time isak or guimaraes are linked to another club this summer.

  3. It’s not about the links – that’s bound to happen when you’re dealing with two top players – it’s the suggestion Arsenal can get Isak for not much more than we paid for him two years ago. Think they’re in for a shock if they reckon £100m gets it done, never mind the £65-80m nonsense.
