Newcastle ‘close’ to first summer signing after positive talks – Reports

According to reports emerging on Wednesday afternoon, Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Fulham centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo.

Alan Nixon at The Sun reports that we ‘look set to land’ the soon-to-be free agent after offering a lucrative contract, while North-East reporter Scott Wilson has released a piece for the Northern Echo claiming we are ‘close to tying up a deal’ for the 26-year-old.

He adds that the 6ft 5′ defender has made it clear he won’t be signing a new deal at Craven Cottage, with this coming after he was left out of Marco Silva’s squad for Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Crystal Palace.

The Echo report that we are ‘increasingly likely’ to beat Premier League rivals Man Utd, Spurs and West Ham after positive talks with the player’s representatives over the past few weeks.

As we revealed in an NUFCBlog exclusive last June, Newcastle hold long-term interest in the tall Tosin and discussed a cut-price move for the former Man City talent 12 months ago.

  1. West ham want Tosin and are likely to top £6m per year wages. Also it’s a big draw for player as he’s already based in London.

  2. If he has a choice between W Ham or NUFC he will want to be in the better team – welcome to the Toon Tosin !
