Newcastle set to launch £15m bid and five-year contract offer – Report

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are set to make a £15m move for Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Luke Edwards reports that we’re ‘pushing ahead’ with a deal for the 26-year-old stopper and hoped to agree a deal with the Gunners. Eddie Howe is keen to re-sign the man he brought to Bournemouth and improve our strength in depth between the sticks after struggling in Nick Pope’s absence this season.

It’s believed Newcastle are willing to offer the England international a five-year contract, while Arsenal are prepared to let him leave for a Premier League club providing a suitable fee can be agreed.

Ramsdale has lost the No 1 spot at the Emirates following the signing of David Raya from Brentford last summer and needs a move to reignite his career. The question is, is he better than Nick Pope? He may be six years younger and more comfortable with the ball at his feet, but some feel Pope is a superior goalkeeper.

Newcastle are set to hold further talks with Arsenal in hope a deal can be struck and will allow Martin Dubravka to depart, with Loris Karius also set to move on when his contract expires next month.
