Newcastle in advance talks to seal signing despite Champions League offers – Report

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are in talks to complete the signing of Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly this week.

Mike McCgrath reports that the 25-year-old has interest from clubs in England and Europe – some of which are able to offer him Champions League football – but it’s believed there’s ‘confidence’ a deal will be wrapped up following further discussions.

The Telegraph states that Eddie Howe is keen to land Kelly after the club missed out on fellow free agent Tosin Adarabioyo over the weekend, with the Fulham defender opting to join Chelsea instead after a late offer from Stamford Bridge.

A deal could be finalised this week, but won’t be announced just yet as Premier League clubs are yet to receive the necessary paperwork to complete transfers. However, it’s thought those documents may become available this week, meaning an announcement could be imminent if all goes to plan over the coming days.

Howe knows the player well from their time together at Bournemouth – he signed Kelly from Bristol City for £13m back in 2019 – and values his ability to play at centre-back and left-back, along with his leadership.

  1. Agreed it’s tedious, but only reporting what The Telegraph have shared today. When it goes quiet and people get edgy (especially after Tosin U-turn), I think people like an update.
