Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth has issued an update on Newcastle’s ongoing attempts to sign Lloyd Kelly, claiming a deal isn’t done just yet.
After Kelly’s official release from Bournemouth today, Fabrizio Romano reported that the defender ‘will become Newcastle player at the beginning of July’, but Sky say there is ‘no full agreement’ as of yet and rival interest Roma and Atletico Madrid.
Sheth does state that discussions have reached an ‘advanced stage’ over Kelly’s proposed move to St James’ Park, so hopefully everything goes smoothly and we don’t see any late offer that hijacks a deal, especially after Chelsea pipped us to a deal for Tosin Adarabioyo last week.
Kelly, 25, would be reunited with Eddie Howe if he does arrive at Newcastle, with the Toon boss bringing him to Bournemouth back in 2019.
He may not be a big name or a star addition to our side, but his ability to play at centre-back – where he could fill in for the injured Sven Botman – and at left-back will appeal to Howe.
Newcastle United remain in talks to sign defender Lloyd Kelly. Discussions at advanced stage but – as it stands – no full agreement. Roma and Atletico Madrid also interested. Bournemouth confirmed Kelly will leave the club upon the expiration of his contract this summer. #NUFC

If Newcastle really want him they should pull their finger out.

Sven Botman, a defender for Newcastle, could miss up to nine months of action due to knee surgery.

Oh dear, first Tosin and now possibly Kelly. Lump that in with all the ones we missed out on last summer and seems to me that the priority new signing should be in the transfer department! And what’s turning out to be an eternal wait for a new sports director isn’t exactly helping either.
