He may be on ‘gardening leave’ or sending more ‘secret’ emails, as reports in Manchester claim Dan Ashworth has put England boss Gareth Southgate at the top of his list to become the next Man Utd manager.
MEN report that Man Utd chiefs are reviewing the 2023/24 season and yet to make a decision on Erik ten Hag’s future, but Ashworth and Sir Dave Brailsford are both huge fans of Southgate; who won’t become available until after this summer’s Euros.
Then we come to some amusing claims from The Express, who claim that Man Utd and Jim Ratcliffe are becoming increasingly frustrated by the time it’s taken to appoint Ashworth, feeling Newcastle’s reluctance to release him from gardening leave is hindering their summer transfer plans.
The arrogance of Ratcliffe, Man Utd and large parts of their fanbase shines through here. With a strict contract in place that includes terms of Ashworth’s gardening leave if a club does not pay the compensation package required, we are completely within our rights to stop Ashworth from waltzing into his new role at Old Trafford unless a fee can be agreed.
He signed the contract, one of our ‘big six’ rivals want him and we have been left without a sporting director that will know many of our secrets as a result. This is also a man who kept Man Utd’s informal approach from the club, sent ‘secret emails’ accepting the offer and tried to delete all traces of his dodgy behaviour.
Ashworth is taking Newcastle to an arbitration hearing in a bid to resolve the impasse over his proposed move to Old Trafford, but suggestions that WE are spoiling Man Utd’s summer are quite frankly ridiculous.
