£16m bid submitted as Newcastle move for England talent – Club want £20m – Report

Newcastle United have made their move for James Trafford, according to reports on Saturday afternoon.

The Mail’s Craig Hope reveals that Newcastle have submitted an offer in the region of £16m for the England goalkeeper following discussions with Burnley this week.

It’s believed the Championship side are pushing for a fee closer to £20m, with ‘discussions ongoing’ with the Clarets as Newcastle look to land the highly-rated 21-year-old.

The Mail report that Eddie Howe is a ‘big admirer’ of the former Man City talent, feeling he can provide competition to current No.1 Nick Pope.

Trafford was cut from England’s final squad for Euro 2024 on Friday and played alongside Anthony Gordon as the Young Lions won the European Championships last summer at U21 level.

The fact he’ll no longer be competing at the Euros means he’s free to sort out his future, although it’s reported that ChelseaLiverpool and Bayern Munich are also keen on the 6ft 4′ stopper.
