Sean Longstaff set for £15m offer from Premier League club – Report

According to the The Mirror, Leicester City are preparing a bid for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff.

The report states that the Foxes are prepared to pay £15m for the 26-year-old,  who bagged eight goals and two assists in 46 appearances over the 2023/24 season.

The Mirror claim Leicester have been tracking Longstaff for ‘several months’, with the newly-promoted side in need of midfield reinforcements; especially if out-of-contract Nigerian Wilfred Ndidi fails to sign a new deal this summer.

Not only could Longstaff be sold for ‘pure profit’ due to his club-trained status – something that would help us financially from an FFP/PSR perspective – this may be our last chance to land a decent fee, with his current contract due to expire in 12 months time, as things stand.

Eddie Howe is clearly a huge fan and has regularly defended the Geordie during his time as manager, but we must surely consider any £15m bid, if true. After all, I’d far rather sell the likes of Longstaff or Miguel Almiron than be cashing in on exciting talents like Yankuba Minteh before he’s even kicked a ball for the club.

  1. Olly:-
Agree with that reasoning if it’s for FFP, but would prefer to see Wilson , Murphy and Almiron go first.
Wilson is not fit enough for long enough, with Murphy and Almiron not good or consistent enough for the level we need to be.
We must be in trouble with FFP if we need £40 million before the end of June.

  2. Don’t wanna sound picky, but surely it’s Newcastle United who are being offered 15 million for Longstaff, and not the player himself?

  3. Don’t get this must sell £40m by end of June when the window isn’t even open. Missing Europe impacts next season. This year’s underachievement will have impacted slightly but £40m. I don’t believe we are this incompetent.

Anyway to Sean. Not his best year but given that he was playing when injured etc still an asset. Doubt that he would be a starter ahead of Big Joe, Tonali and Bruno. Given our back ups, Little Joe, Anderson and Miley would he need replacing?

If so then Joey Veerman from PSV would be my choice.

  4. struggling to find any ‘need £40m’ reference and for that matter how the media have settled on ‘need £15m’ but that aside longstaff is a squad player in an area of the squad where there is a lot of competition.
So he has a choice to make if other PL teams are interested in signing him.
Longstaff gets way too much criticism and despite that was an integral part of the team who shook the league so I’ll remember him positively and wish him well if he goes

  5. Is everyone missing the low valuation being placed on Longstaff.

There are players we have shown interest in without the stats of Longstaff and we are seeing prices £40/50 million.

Longstaff is an experienced midfielder who contributed 8 goals last season, a good return for a midfielder he must imo be worth at least double what Leicester are offering ??
