Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Brighton are now in talks to sign Crysencio Summerville; the Leeds United star believed to be on Newcastle’s shortlist of winger targets.
The Athletic revealed earlier this month that Summerville was discussed during recruitment meetings on Tyneside along with Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise, West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.
The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards and FootballTransfers’ Jacque Talbot have also reported on our interest in the Dutchman, but it seems Brighton have made the first move following the appointment of Fabian Hürzeler from St Pauli.
Romano reports that the Seagulls have no made contact with Leeds over a deal for the £35m-rated winger, but warns that ‘many clubs’ are keen with Liverpool and Chelsea also monitoring the 22-year-old after his 20-goal season in the second tier.
Personally, I’ve always been slightly surprised by links to Summerville based on the fact he’s a right-footed winger playing on the left. He’s clearly a real talent, but I’m expecting us to target an out-and-out right winger, not a versatile option who has played his best football down the other flank.

Not an easy one with many clubs keen but #BHAFC have started initial talks to explore this possibility.

Usually on the same page as you Olly, but not sure where you’re getting the “right footer on left wing” is a problem in identifying our ideal right winger. Eddie has a very clear tendency to have inverted wingers who cut in, with the full back providing width.
I actually see a pure right footer in right wing as an indication that Eddie wouldn’t be interested.

Good player, but not sure he’s the right fit

He’s been discussed by the club but that doesn’t mean we’ve gone for him. I’d far rather we left Brighton to Summerville if it meant we tried for Olise…
