News About Toon: Guimaraes Deal Expires And Tomori Deal Explored

It’s that time of the week again when we focus on all things Newcastle United and bring you the latest and greatest stories from last week. The European Championships have of course been taking most of the focus at the moment, but there is still plenty of activity happening behind the scenes at most football clubs including ours.

Bruno Guimarães Release Clause Expires

Starting off with some positive news, Bruno Guimaraes‘s release clause has now expired which will come as a welcome relief for Newcastle United fans. No club has come forward and offered the £100 Million needed to prise him out of the club’s hands and now betting markets are even putting him at 2/1 to remain at the club currently.

This comes as no surprise as it was squeaky *** time with the release clause still active, but now it is no longer a factor The Toon can charge whatever fee they want for the Brazilian talisman. Personally, I think he will now stay at the club for at least one more season as the board now holds all the cards, he is vital for us next season especially if we want a return to European football for the second time of asking … It would have been the first time of asking if it wasn’t for Manchester City folding in the F.A Cup Final against arch-rivals Manchester United. That one is still a bitter pill to swallow.

Fikayo Tomori Looks Unlikley

Some less positive news in relation to transfer activity coming out of Italy now. According to Tuttosport, Newcastle United set their sights on AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori. Tomori would be a welcome addition to the squad as he would provide great depth to the first-team squad especially after already securing the services of Lloyd Kelly on a free transfer from Bournemouth.

However, now comes the bad news. Milan considers Tomori their top centre-back and will not entertain offers unless they reach the €45-50 million mark. Even with a substantial bid, the Italian giants are unlikely to approve the sale of Tomori, especially after already losing Simon Kjaer, it would be a move that would weaken them considerably in defence and they would probably want a substantial replacement lined up before even entertaining the idea of a sale

Additionally, to further rub salt in our wounds, reports indicate that Tomori is not interested in a move to Newcastle at this moment in time. One of the main reasons seems to be the lack of Champions League football at St James’ Park next season. Tomori is said to be relishing the chance to play in Europe’s top competition next season, and with three years left on his current contract, he is currently content with staying in Italy.

This one is a bit of a blow I feel, as Newcastle United do need to sharpen up their tools in defence and I feel Tomori would of been an excellent option to lead the defensive line. Hopefully, the club are still looking at other options to bolster this position for next season.
