Newcastle agree £40m deal – but move in doubt due to Yankuba Minteh demands – Report

According to reports this afternoon, Yankuba Minteh’s proposed move to Lyon is now in serious doubt due to the winger’s reluctance to join the Ligue 1 side.

Matt Hughes at The Sun reports that Newcastle have struck a £40m agreement with Lyon, but the Gambian is refusing to seal a move to France and has declined the chance to discuss personal terms as he wants to remain in the Premier League.

This would be the second potential move that’s collapsed over the past week, with Everton’s pursuit of the 19-year-old being called off now Newcastle have pulled out of talks to sign Toffees striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Newcastle must raise funds before the Profit and Sustainability deadline on 30 June and it’s believed Minteh had been identified as a suitable player to sacrifice to ensure we avoid a points deduction for breaching Premier League rules.

The report states that Minteh has told Toon chiefs that he won’t be forced into a transfer that doesn’t suit him, despite being aware of the club’s need to sell over the next few days.

  1. Dave:
Good on him deciding on hid future

There’s just no way this is true on so many levels.

    1. Lyon pay £40m for 19yr old with danish and Dutch exp only.

    2. A 19yr old with Danish and Dutch exp only decides he’s too good for a top Ligue 1 team.

    3. The sun. Enough said

  2. Ridiculous to sell before he’s even been tried out in UK. Looks promising so we should not sell even if we get a points deduction. He could well prove to be better than a winger we buy. False econony to sell now.

  3. The whole story is exactly that a fairytale by lazy writers making everything up
