Big claims from Italy – Newcastle preparing ‘€25-30m’ bid for Serie A star?

According to reports emerging from Italy this morning, Newcastle United are stepping up their interest in Juventus centre-back Federico Gatti.

This comes via La Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim that we’ve made multiple enquiries over a potential deal for the 26-year-old defender.

They report that we’re yet to submit a formal offer but suggest a bid of €25-30m (£21-30m) plus bonuses could be heading Juventus’ way after ‘concrete interest’ from Newcastle.

It’s believed new boss Thiago Motta is reluctant to lose Gatti, who was a key player for Juve last season, but Gazzetta accept that ‘everything has a price’ given the club’s financial battles.

The right-sided centre-back is currently away with Italy at Euro 2024, but is yet to feature for his country in their opening three group games against Albania, Spain and Croatia; who they scored late against this week to set up a last 16 tie with Switzerland this Saturday.

Time will tell if this has any truth to it, as the Italian press have been pretty hit and miss with Newcastle stories since the Saudi takeover.
