According to The Athletic, Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s failure to agree personal terms with Newcastle scuppered Yankuba Minteh’s proposed move to Everton.
The Gambian winger has completed a move to Brighton for a club-record £33m fee, securing our biggest sale since Andy Carroll’s £35m sale to Liverpool in 2011. However, it’s believed he came close to joining Everton just a few days prior.
The Athletic reveal that the 19-year-old looked all set to secure a move to Merseyside, with Calvert-Lewin heading in the opposite direction in deals that helped satisfy both clubs’ PSR needs, but negotiations ‘fell apart’ after the 27-year-old striker failed to agree terms with Newcastle.
Further details are not clear, but this suggests the Toffees forward couldn’t agree personal terms with Newcastle, whether that be over his weekly wage, length of contract of assurances over his playing time under Eddie Howe.
Some feel we be better off looking elsewhere, as Calvert-Lewin has only managed 14 Premier League goals over the past three season and has had his fair share of injury issues, despite hope he could thrive under Howe in a more attacking side.
He’s out of contract next summer and could move on if he fails to sign a new deal on Merseyside, but it seems he won’t be arriving at St James’ Park unless something changes – whether it’s Everton’s asking price of the player’s demands.

Crikey – our second biggest sale since Andy Carroll.
That’s a stark reminder of why we are in such a financial mess doesn’t it?!.
While other clubs are selling there players for £50m-£100m, our last big sale was 13 years ago.
I’m annoyed with the PL for how they are choking us now – but actually, my annoyance is more the fact they sit back and allowed Ashley to choke us & run our club the way he did.
Where was their fit & proper test then?!.
Their concern is owners destroying clubs by over spending – but why aren’t they concerned about owners destroying clubs by under investing?!.
They are investigating clubs for inflated sponsorship deals – where were they when Ashley plastered SD all over our club without taking proper sponsorship money?!.
The truth is the PL have never done right by NUFC – Saudis or no.

You are so right. Aston Villa suffering at the moment as well. When were Tottenham ever big 6! Until money poured into Chelsea and MAN City don’t think they were anywhere near either. PL needs to fundamentally look at the way finances are structured. Under Ashley NUFC was seriously underfunded. I also don’t think Money should be allowed to be thrown at a project, but feel new owners should maybe have 5 years before having to hit PSR targets.
