Simon Jordan has been speaking about Amanda Staveley’s time on Tyneside after it was revealed yesterday that our co-owner and husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi will be leaving the club this summer.
Speaking on talkSPORT alongside Jim White earlier today, Jordan relived their heated exchange live on air in July 2021 – while Staveley was fighting to push through a deal – and discussed her three years at St James’ Park, feeling she deserves huge credit for securing Saudi investment but has also made a few ‘stupid’ mistakes along the way.
Watch the full clip below, followed by a transcript of everything Jordan has had to say following news of her imminent departure:
“She’s been very influential in getting some very, very financially adept people in a position to buy Newcastle United.” Jordan said. “She has to be given credit for that. She has said some stupid things over the past two or three years. She got herself into a difficult position with Steve Bruce and almost got herself sued by saying ridiculous things about him not wanting to manage the football club.
“She has been prone to telling people they (Newcastle) are going to win everything and that is probably unadvised. And she also had a fallout with Mike Ashley, because she borrowed some money to buy the shares she bought in the first place. But she has been fundamental in her role at getting these guys (PIF). But I said to you she won’t be there for that long and has been there longer than anticipated. She goes away having done very nicely for herself and Newcastle have a set of owners who will benefit them in the long game.
“Amanda got them (PIF) in the door. They bought Newcastle and you look at it for around £300 million, you look at a team in the Premier League for £300 million. When you look at clubs being sold for £2.5bn, it’s a great deal. It’s a great deal.
“And she was instrumental in that, but it wasn’t her money. So with all due respect, she was clever at manipulating the circumstances to get people that wanted to buy a football club. She orchestrated a deal. She got 10% shareholding out of it. She’s probably cashed out very nicely at that. Fair play to her.”
It was fairly obvious from the start that she was only allowed to play because she helped take the edge off a deal that needed an air of respectability. A huge thing was made about the fact that Brits had a 20% share of the club when in reality that was probably just a paperwork exercise with neither Staveley or the Reubens having any sway or say in the running of the club.
PIF were playing the long game, and we’re inching closer to their goal by the season.

There’s no denying Amanda Staveley has been brilliant for Newcastle. The fans felt an attachment with her something that hasn’t been felt since John Hall took over. She was passionate about the club and Jordon may feel she said daft things but she certainly got the better of him on more than one occasion. So sit down and shut up Jordon.
