Newcastle launch Marc Guehi bid as Paul Mitchell leads Crystal Palace talks – Report

According to The Mail, Newcastle have submitted an initial offer for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.

Chief Football Reporter Sami Mokbel reports that sporting director Paul Mitchell is handling negotiations and looks set to speak with Palace co-owner Steve Parish after the two clubs opened talks over a potential big-money move to St James’ Park.

The report states that value of our opening offer is not yet clear, but a verbal proposal has been put Palace’s way, with the 24-year-old defender ‘open to leaving’ Selhurst Park this summer if the ‘right project’ emerges.

However, he will not come cheap. Despite entering the final two years of his contract, The Mail report that Eagles chiefs valued the England international at £65m before his impressive displays at Euro 2024, suggesting they will now demand north of that figure.

It’s believed a number of clubs have shown interest in Guehi and Man City are also thought to be admirers, although the Champions must sell before making any moves this summer and Newcastle are the first Premier League club to step up their pursuit of the former Chelsea talent.

  1. I don’t see Palace taking kindly to all this being do public. If we are only at a stage of submitting an initial bid we are a long way off any kind deal being done.

  2. I wonder which club leaked the news.

CP are more likely to benefit if as implied, Guehi is open to a move and there’s a few competing clubs.

Public broadcasting of interest/negotiations in players is not something that nufc have encouraged to try and control prices and avoid competition against the established money
