Marc Guehi update – Sky Sports and David Ornstein respond to Luke Edwards ‘exclusive’

Both Sky Sports’ Keith Downie and The Athletic’s David Ornstein have issued their information on Marc Guehi after a big ‘exclusive’ from The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards stated we are ‘close’ to sealing a £60m+ deal for the England centre-back.

Starting with Downie, he reports that we had an opening bid rejected by Crystal Palace for the 24-year-old, but are expected to return with a higher offer as talks continue between the two clubs.

He also adds that we are currently the only club in talks – despite interest from other parties – and reveals that there’s confidence a deal could be struck quickly, with personal terms unlikely to be an issue. However, his sources believe claims of a deal being ‘very close’ to completion are a tad premature for now.

As for Ornstein, he reveals that we’ve submitted an opening offer for the defender – which Downie claims has been rejected – and the ‘situation is ongoing’ as we push to strike a deal.

He adds that there’s ‘no sign’ of Guehi extending his contract at Selhurst Park, which could force Palace into a sale given his current deal expires in less than two years time.

Hopefully Edwards hasn’t jumped the gun and both Downie and Ornstein are being cautions, with The Telegraph’s exclusive suggesting he could even sign before the week is out. Fingers crossed, folks.
