An intriguing transfer update has emerged from the i’s Mark Douglas today, who’s issued an update on Marc Guehi and revealed that an unnamed centre-back (not Malick Thiaw) has also been in talks with the club.
Starting with Guehi, Douglas claims that the 24-year-old is ‘very much open’ to a move to the North East, suggesting he’d swap Selhurst Park for St James’ if a fee could be agreed, with our interest in the Crystal Palace star ‘very real.’
His price tag could be the tricky part, as it’s understood no deal has been agreed after ongoing conversations with the Eagles, who are demanding “north of £65m” for the England international after his impressive displays at Euro 2024.
Newcastle retain an interest in AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw, but it’s believed a third centre-back option is being discussed, with iNews claiming that surprise talks have taken place over a mystery defender in parallel with negotiations over Guehi.
With Newcastle’s wait for a major summer signing dragging on, Douglas also shares a line he received from unnamed and ‘unruffled’ Newcastle executive, who said: “We’re waiting for the right opportunities and it’s not easy to get the best players in a market that’s pretty flat.”

Sneaky move – by reporting “unnamed” and only the vaguest of details, no matter who we sign Douglas can say “yep, I told you about it first!”
I understand that we are in talks with a number of unnamed players, 2 or 3 or maybe more of which should sneak in just before the window closes.
You heard it here first!
