Newcastle United have no intention of selling Anthony Gordon this summer, but the i’s Mark Douglas reveals that there’s still an air of uncertainty around his future at St James’ Park
He reports that Liverpool’s interest ‘has not gone away’ and that sources on Merseyside believe Gordon himself is keen on a move to his boyhood club.
According to the i, Newcastle’s official stance is he’s going nowhere, with the club hoping to sit down for contract talks once he returns later this week. However, the winger has just two years left on his current deal and could force the club to pursue potential replacements if he pushes for a move to Anfield and refuses to sign an extension.
With this in mind, Douglas reports that Newcastle could target Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze – a left-sided attacker with a £60m release clause in his deal – or renew their interest in West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen or Mohammed Kudus should we become backed into a corner over Gordon’s future.
At this stage, it’s considered ‘unlikely’ that we lose the former Everton talent, but the club would be foolish not to consider potential replacements if Gordon returns with his head turned and reluctant to discuss a new contract, especially while his value has never been higher (and will only drop the closer he gets to his current deal expiring).
The same piece reports that Paul Mitchell is eager to future proof Eddie Howe’s squad with more succession planning. We’ve already seen Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall sign – two players who will soon (if not already) step in for Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn – and William Osula is considered another exciting project, with Mitchell believing he has the pace, power and potential to become a quality Premier League striker under Eddie Howe’s coaching.

I don’t see how this Gordon to Liverpool is a thing they have Díaz, Gakpo and Jota in the LW position.
Maybe we should get one of them in any deal of he has had his head turned as the press keep saying he has.
I personally don’t think he has, he loves it here, he’s a level headed guy that has found his place and enjoys it. I’m confident he’ll be here when the window shuts with a new contract in his hand. No worries 😉
Neither Bowen or Kudus are direct replacements for Gordon as they both play on the right. I don’t see us selling Gordon unless it funds Guehi and another big couple of signings.
Why oh why have we not gone in for Connor Gallagher as an upgrade for Longstaff who has been bottom of the player rating stats year after year? He would improve the midfield no end
and let Bruno get into a more advanced role…
Chelsea would not sell to a prem club for gallagher ..as to Gordon it’s just another whatifery non story for hacks who have to fill content.. and it’s wash rinse repeat .. but eze would be a great signing
Not sure MF is a priority for spending £30m+.
Longstaff will be a squad player this coming season, if he stays, as was planned last season ( injuries permitting).
If Gordon pushes for Liverpool we should only entertain it if the deal involved Jota coming the other way. He would be a good replacement for him …. HOWEVER!! I do not want to see Gordon leave.
I don’t see why he’d be pushing for a move when with respect to Liverpool, they don’t know how Slot gets on or the impact of Klopp leaving.
We shall see, but we shouldn’t be in a position where our hands are being forced.
