Sky Sports: England identify four candidates for job with interim boss set to step in

It looks like England will draft in current U21 boss Lee Carsley as the our interim manager for next month’s Nations League matches.

Sky Sports reveal that the former Everton midfielder looks set to step in for September’s fixtures, with the England squad due to be named on August 29th ahead of games against the Republic of Ireland and Finland.

The FA are continuing their search for Gareth Southgate’s long-term successor and Sky report that Eddie Howe, Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino and Kieran McKenna are all on list of targets.

However, as we know, Howe has made his commitment to Newcastle clear in recent weeks, with positive clear-the-air talks taking place to clarify the arrangement following Amanda Staveley’s departure and Paul Mitchell’s arrival alongside performance director James Bunce.

Mark Bullingham – the FA’s Chief executive – said this last month: “Our UEFA Nations League campaign starts in September, and we have an interim solution in place if it is needed”, hinting that Carsley could step in should a long-term replacement for Southgate fail to arrive quickly.

  1. Why doesn’t Howe just take the England job because to be Honest I think he will be gone this season. The Owners of the club will want more this Season and I think Howe has gone as far as he can.

  2. Eddie Howe has proved he is worth at least another season, obviously in this competitive football world things will be results dependent, as it will be for every other manager.
This season he will have less fixtures, hopefully a stronger squad and less injuries.
With those three things in place the expectations will and should be higher than what we achieved last season.
    Hope he succeeds!
