Sky Sports have now confirmed that Newcastle United have launched a third bid for Marc Guehi after having our opening two offers rejected by Crystal Palace.
Keith Downie reports that our latest offer was submitted over the weekend and is ‘closer’ Palace’s £65m asking price, with the Eagles currently considering our bid for the England international as Newcastle hope for a compromise.
The Mail revealed earlier today that our second offer was in the region of £50m, while Mark Douglas at the i suggested that an offer of around £55m plus achievable add-ons could be enough to land the 24-year-old.
However, you get the feeling this might be a take-it-or-leave offer from both ends. Newcastle may have to pursue other targets if this latest offer fails, while Palace will want clarity on his future soon, knowing they must replace their captain should he seal a summer move to St James’ Park.
It feels like a compromise is edging closer, but there’s only so long this transfer saga can drag out, with a centre-back and right-winger needed over the final three weeks of the window.

The third bid is closer to £65m, I’d imagine it would hardly be futher away

If C. Palace have interest in Anderson for £40 million they won’t want to lose both CB’s so if we really want him we need to get a move on.

£60 million plus add ons should get him. To be honest we need to get this done now because there won’t be any time to set up a deal for another player. Negotiations are still ongoing while Palace consider the new bid so if we need to give way a little to Palace’s demands I suggest we do it.

Leave it unless it’s what palace ask for!

I always find it rather odd that fans think we are not capable of working on more than one deal at a time.

That’ll be a ‘leave it’ then…

Look elsewhere what about Thaiwe? cost ? pay deal done save some cash for a new winger
will all be recouped when Gordon is sold to Liverpool

Of course we will be working on more than one deal as we were looking at a forward, centre half and a winger and they will be looking at several options for each position but it seems this Guehi deal is the one they are focussed on so I wouldn’t be surprised if they have thrown most of the transfer work into this deal at the expense of any back up centre half deal because they felt they could pull it off.

The club aren’t interested in selling either of them, which is why the valuation for Guehi is high, both of them are in Glasner’s plans.
