Sky Sports’ Keith Downie has been discussing the latest on Newcastle United’s pursuit of Marc Guehi from outside St James’ Park this morning.
He reports that Newcastle have NOT walked away from a deal for the Crystal Palace defender, insisting he is our top target and someone we will continue to pursue until the summer window shuts two weeks tomorrow.
Downie feels we won’t be put off by Steve Parish’s comments earlier this week and believes negotiations are still taking place after three separate bids. Our last offer is thought to be £55m rising to £60m including add-ons, but Palace are demanding a minimum of £65m.
As the Sky Sports reporter explains below, it’s expected that private talks will take place over the coming days after much of the negotiation has been played out in public, where we’ve seen regular updates on bids, talks and interviews from Parish himself over the past week.
"They've make it clear he's their number one defensive target."

So, it seems Newcastle are refusing to give up on Guehi and must still have real belief that there’s a deal to be done here.

They named their price 3 bids ago!!
Either pay them the money or move onto someone who fits the budget.
It’s boring now – and time is running out.
There another week gone without any new additions & the season starts in 2 days time!!

I really don’t have much confidence in Mitchell right now plus he needs to tidy himself up not a great look for our club if he’s the first person players meet however could be worse Ratcliffe looks like stig of the dump.

So the fella gets the post 1 month ago and you have no confidence in him!? Wow … talk about give someone time to settle in, have you forgotten that he could of been brought in months ago, but the PIF were trying to mess with Stig of the Dump, so left him out in the wilderness, then went after Dougie Freedman who turned us down to stay with Palace, the same club Mitchell is trying to negotiate with.
NUFC under PIF don’t talk to Joe Public and since Amanda left it seems nobody is talking, so people are getting restless.

I agree, not worth £65m (maybe in a structured deal, but not as Palace want the deal).
He’s £50 + add on’s max in my eyes

If he is their number one target then they have to pay the money, no point losing him for the sake of a few million quid.
Sick of Downie stoking the flames after he said it was close two weeks ago!

I love quotes like “Palace are demanding a minimum of £65m.”
So essentially that means Palace are demanding £65m.
I can see the discussions.
“How much do you want for him?”
“We want a minimum of £65m”.
“Oh, OK. We’re not going a penny over 75?”

This protracted window with Bruno, Gordon and the buying speculation is just garbage.
There has been nothing positive in either direction from the club, they need to get a grip.

Not worth it walk on next.
New men sorting transfers should be sorted themselves.

Guehi is the best centre half in this country, Newcastle value Gordon £100 m, and Issac £150m, neither are the top players in their positions. Either Newcastle pay the £75m or walk away, Palace cannot be clearer in stating that position. I really cannot see the point of Guehi making a sideways step (at best) to join a club who are about to lose their manager as be dumped by PIF in the next year leaving them worse of than they were before the takeover

How many players of any value have been signed in this window, players that can be an asset to get in to Europe. The season starts on Saturday and all that has been achieved is by selling two players that has weakened the team! I have said this before PIF are stalling, I said that there would be no MAJOR signings before the season STARTED!

I am concerned that Crystal Palace is not serious about Marc Guehi’s trade. They need to say exactly what they expect to get for the transfer. The season is about to begin and yet there is no indication of the seriousness of their intent. I do admire the patience exhibited by Newcastle’s manager.

Just like last year. No major signings.
