Speaking on Monday Night Football, both Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have predicted that Newcastle will finish outside of the top six with the former Liverpool captain believing we’ll live to regret Yankuba Minteh’s sale.
Neville does have us down as a ‘European contender’, but Carragher was leaning more towards ninth or 10th before naming Minteh as his ‘player to watch’ in the prediction section of last night’s show on Sky Sports.
The Gambian shone on his Premier League debut for Brighton, grabbing an assist for their opening goal in Saturday’s 3-0 win at Everton. We know it was a ‘PSR deal’ to avoid Newcastle suffering a points deduction, but it’s a tough one to take when he looks exactly what we are currently missing on the right side of our attack.
Carragher on Newcastle: “They’re going to have to get the centre back over the line, especially with the suspension they got at the weekend.
“I love Newcastle, I love Eddie Howe if it was my choice he’d be the next England manager, but I think they’ll just miss out on the European positions like they did this year.”
Carragher on Yankuba Minteh: “I read a lot about him over the summer, or towards the end of last season about him coming back to Newcastle. They obviously moved him on because of the financial situation.
“When I look at what Newcastle have got on that right-hand side – Jacob Murphy has done a great job over the last few years, Almiron is a player I think they were trying to move on to the MLS, so I don’t know whether he’ll stay or not.
“But that lad [Minteh], certainly what I saw in little bits and in highlights last season, and what he did against Everton at the weekend – I think that is one that Newcastle are going to really rue in years to come. He looks the real deal.”
Carragher’s top six: 1. Man City – 2. Arsenal – 3. Liverpool – 4. Spurs – 5. Man Utd – 6. Aston Villa
Neville’s top six: 1. Arsenal – 2. Man City – 3. Man Utd – 4.Chelsea – 5. Liverpool – 6. Spurs

They should be telling the FA and people responsible for PSR that and bring pressure to bear for change instead of trying to grab headlines.
The lack of fairness with regard to protecting the big 6 shows what a totally corrupt lot they are.
Where are the legal challenges to the FA?

Joseph – yeah the fact Man Utd have seemingly had special dispensations stinks really. Also the fact that Chelsea can buy 6 players for every position without scrutiny & City are STILL yet to answer for over 100 rule breaches – it all stinks!!.
Carra spoke as if we were daft to sell – but our hand was forced – simple as that!!.
I think they probably waited thinking someone would trigger Bruno’s realise clause – we’d lose him but that would be it. Once that didn’t happen it was a scramble & we lost 2 excellent young players.
I know the argument will be ‘thems the rules’ but there’s nowt fair about them!!.

Carra and Neville are terrified of Newcastle .. to admit they are in the top 6 again this year is a great threat to their clubs futures ..same with the London journo’s they don’t want to talk about Newcastle ..it’s a giant elephant in the room waiting to stomp all over their spurs farcenal and Chelsea
