€45m centre-back ‘on the verge’ of Premier League move – Newcastle or Crystal Palace?

According to reports in Germany, Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Odilon Kossounou is on the verge of joining an unnamed Premier League club for a fee of around €45m.

This comes from Kicker, who report that an offer is on the table and a move to England is in the offing, although it’s currently unclear if it’s Crystal Palace or Newcastle who could be landing the Ivory Coast international.

They state ‘many things indicate’ that it could be Palace – who are pushing to replace Joachim Andersen ahead of his £30m move to Fulham – but state that Newcastle are also keen on the 23-year-old.

The same that both Palace and Newcastle have shown interest in fellow centre-back Edmond Tapsoba, but Leverkusen have declared him ‘untouchable’ and are reluctant to sell the Burkina Faso star ahead of their return to the Champions League.

Time will tell if there’s any truth in these big claims from Germany, but if it’s Palace who are closing in on a big-money move for Kossounou, you suspect it could be good news in our pursuit of Marc Guehi?

  1. If Palace think he’s good enough to replace Guehi their club captain for £45 million, surely we could save ourselves £20 million and put it towards a right winger.

Well Palace sights should be lower than ours in fairness.

  3. Is anybody else just sick of this so called transfer window and the neverending story of the Crystal Palace saga. Had enough now. Shambolic comes to mind, the positivity feel is waning somewhat. Just going to stop reading these so called journalists/experts/pundits comments. Hwtl

  4. Yeah by that argument why not just go for Andersen for £30m 🤷🏼‍♂️ or Chalobah for £25m.

I’m all in favour of pursuing the players we believe will move our club forward – I’m just not entirely sure our lot have fully made their mind up who they are yet.

  5. I’d go for Chilwell & Disasi for the £65m & loan to buy Madueke.

People will say that’s buying Chelsea cast offs but Chelsea don’t know their squad to know who’s first team & who’s cast off.

Chilwell? Injury prone, huge wages and LB not a priority at all with Hall/Kelly now options. Don’t get that one mate!

  7. Olly – yeah the injuries may be an issue. I don’t think Hall is ready yet mate. I’d loan him out for a season.

A fit Chilwell is better than Targett imo.

With Botman out my thinking is Burn & Kelly for LCB cover.

I see Targett & Hall as our LBs and I’m not sure that’s strong enough.

  8. Disasi & Madueke would be the start of the negotiations – but they have plenty quality players who could be out.

People will say ‘if they aren’t good enough for Chelsea’ – but I think that’s short sighted. These are quality players & could be so much better in a settled club & a team with the togetherness we have.

I get you questioning Chilwell, but it only the wages. He’d be an upgrade in our squad for sure mate.

  9. If you know anything about football you should know Chilwells injury history and his best days are over!
