Sky Sports issue Marc Guehi update after £30m deal, Tapsoba and Disasi links

Sky Sports’ Keith Downie insists that Joachim Andersen’s £30m move for Fulham is ‘unlikely to have an impact’ on Newcastle’s ongoing pursuit of Marc Guehi.

Many felt last night’s news on Andersen would end our hopes of landing Guehi, as Palace owner Steve Parish has previously hinted that he couldn’t see both of his star centre-backs leaving in the same window.

While Newcastle are now ‘actively pursuing’ potential alternatives – Edmond Tapsoba and Axel Disasi were both linked via The Athletic’s David Ornstein last night – we remain at the table for Guehi and are hoping for a compromise after a £65m bid fell short of Palace’s £70m demands.

Downie insists that Guehi’s value will only drop in the coming windows, as he’s out of contract in two years time. With this in mind, it’s thought Palace may still be open to a sale despite losing Andersen to Fulham – but we can’t wait forever.

Speaking to Newcastle fans on Twitter (X), here’s what Downie and The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards had to say in response to the Tapsoba and Disasi links:

Keith Downie: ‘I don’t know on Tabsoba. But I do know that Disasi was a definite no last summer. Unless they have been impressed with him at Chelsea and a season in the Premier League.’

Luke Edwards:They are talking to Leverkusen about him “in case” they can’t sign Guehi…’

  1. I hope this stuff in the media is a smokescreen, and two quality signings materialise from nowhere – a la Tonali (minus the suspension of course)

  2. It appears obvious that Palace have made our minds up for us after such a protracted affair.
Other clubs especially those who we are supposed to be trying to compete with seem to be far more decisive when going after players.
No doubt it will be a last minute panic like it was with psr and we will end up with the dregs or nobody at all.
