According to Sky Sports, Newcastle United have now opened talks with Bayer Leverkusen over a deal for cntre-back Edmond Tapsoba.
Keith Downie reports that we’ve approached the Bundesliga side over the 25-year-old Burkina Faso international and also enquired about Chelsea’s Axel Disasi.
Paul Mitchell knows Disasi well from his time at Monaco, with our sporting director bringing him to the Ligue 1 side in a £12m deal from Reims in 2020. The French international only joined Chelsea last summer for £38m last summer but could move on this summer.
Downie reports that both Tapsoba and Disasi would cost less than Marc Guehi, which could free up funds to spend on a right-winger over the final week of the summer window.
It’s believed our £65m move for Guehi is ‘still live’, despite Joachim Andersen heading to Fulham for £30m, but Newcastle have now stepped up their interest in potential alternatives due to the ongoing stand-off with Crystal Palace.
