Fabian Schar has called time on his international career.
In an emotional video with the caption ‘thank you’, the 32-year-old confirms that he’s retiring from international football after 86 games for his country.
After competing at the Euros over the summer, Schar has played in three European Championships (Euro 2016, 2020 and 2024) and three World Cups (2014, 2018 and 2022) for Switzerland.
Schar made his debut for his country in August 2016 and made his last appearance in July’s Euro quarter-final against England, where the Swiss lost 6-4 on penalties. Watch his retirement announcement video below:

Schar scored eight times for his country and calls time just before their Nations League games against Denmark and Spain during next month’s international break.
As for his season so far on Tyneside, his sending off in our opening day win over Southampton meant he was suspended for Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Bournemouth. He’ll also miss Wednesday’s trip to Nottingham Forest and Sunday’s clash with Spurs, as a result
