Crystal Palace agree £17.5m deal as mixed Marc Guehi reports emerge on Wednesday

According to reports on Wednesday afternoon, Crystal Palace have agreed a deal to sign Wolfsburg centre-back Maxence Lacroix; a move that could boost our hopes of landing Marc Guehi.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reveals that the Frenchman is expected to sign after a deal worth £17.5m was agreed with the Bundesliga club. He reports that personal terms haven’t been agreed as of yet, while other outlets insist they will not be a problem.

On Guehi, The Guardian’s Ed Aarons states that Newcastle are yet to submit a new offer for the Palace captain, ‘as things stand’, while The Independent’s Miguel Delaney claims the deal may ‘go down to the wire’ ahead of Friday’s 11pm deadline as the Eagles are refusing to lower their £70m asking price.

However, the i’s Mark Douglas has issued a far more positive update on our attempts to sign the 24-year-old today, saying: ‘Guehi’s move has jolted significantly closer in the last 24 hours, with fresh dialogue edging the clubs towards an agreement – and that could come as early as Wednesday after Crystal Palace’s Carabao Cup game against Norwich City.’

It’s been a painfully slow saga that’s been played out in public for almost four weeks now, but let’s hope Palace’s move for Lacroix moves things along today; even if they’d have both Guehi and Joachim Andersen (now at Fulham) to replace.

  1. Why pay so much for Guehi I think it will be the biggest mistake we ever make. Time will tell.

  2. You Geordies are so entitled. Why do you think Palace are likely to sell a key player in the last 48 hours of the transfer window. Personally I doubt this will happen.

It’s not entitlement it’s called being logical.

2yrs left on deal. 70m now is 50m at most in January. And then lower again next summer.
Oh and if he gets a bad injury forget about any real money.

Parish is playing poker by using him so much before the deadline.

You are incredibly naive, now I’d you’re not too busy, I’d like to talk to you about magic beans, could make you a great deal on them!

  4. I don’t feel entitled – I feel like our club is making mistake after mistake!!.

WE should be buying this lad for £17.5m!!.

We could have bought him & Andersen from Palace – Andersen able to go straight in, Lacroix to develop – and STILL had money for a RWF – Chiesa going to Lpool for £10m.

Our club have lost the **** plot!!.

  5. Lacroix is a hell of a player for 17.5 million, Palace certainly know how to do business unlike our dumb lot.
Chiesa 12.5 million, Liverpool also know how to do business.
    WTF are our lot doing!
It just shows you what’s out there for a fraction of what we are stumping up.
    PIF should sack the lot.

12.5 million for Chiesa think he’s that cheap due to the serious knee injury he had I’d err on the side of caution for now regarding that

You’ve never seen a player sold on deadline day I presume?
I would rather get anyone but Guehi, he’s overpriced at 50 million.
