€45m deal agreed as Newcastle ‘miss out’ on alternative to Marc Guehi – Report

It’s been a brutal day on the transfer front and it looks like getting worse, as reported target Mohamed Simakan looks set to join Saudi giants Al Nassr.

As revealed by RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins, the Saudi Pro League side have now reached a ‘total agreement’ worth €45m with RB Leipzig for the Frenchman’s signature.

The 24-year-old was heavily linked with a possible move to St James’ Park yesterday, with Sky Germany revealing that we were ‘exploring’ a deal for the centre-back as a potential alternative to Marc Guehi.

However, it seems he’s now on his way to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr – who are ironically part-owned by PIF – and will travel to the Middle East on Friday for a medical if and when he agrees personal terms over a five-year contract.

Who knows if we were ever seriously considering a move for Simakan, but our hopes of landing a centre-back before tomorrow’s 11pm deadline are dwindling rapidly after the club pulled out of talks to sign Guehi earlier today.

  1. Whole thing has been a farce. Did they seriously try to sign a big name or was this all just a show for the supporters ? Other teams get several players.
We were interested in Chiesa but he’s now gone to Liverpool as we are too slow or not serious.
