It may not be the centre-back or right-winger we’re all crying out for, but it looks like James Trafford could be one to watch heading into deadline day.
According to Alan Nixon’s latest Patreon post, Newcastle are preparing to make a final bid for 21-year-old Burnley goalkeeper, with Belgian side Anderlecht closing in on a loan deal for Odysseas Vlachodimos.
He reports that the Clarets have reduced their demands from £30m to £20m, although it remains to be seen if Newcastle will pursue a permanent deal or a loan bid that includes an obligation to buy next summer. Interestingly, the former Man City talent wasn’t in Burnley’s squad for their cup defeat at Wolves on Wednesday night.
TalkSPORT revealed earlier this week that we were back in talks with Burnley over Trafford. However, it was always said that one of Martin Dubravka or Vlachodimos would need to go to create space in our inflated goalkeeper department.
While Newcastle have had, what some might call a bit of a disaster of a window, it looks like Howe will at the very least get his wanted backup keeper to compete with Pope, with the England U21 considered a potential long-term replacement.
While Vlachodimos has only just joined the club, it’s increasingly clear that he was signed in a ‘PSR deal’ that helped us sell Elliot Anderson and avoid a points deduction at the end of June.
As for Dubravka, there’s no word at this time on his future, with both he and Vlachodimos missing out on our squad at Nottingham Forest last night.

Another Goal keeper I Suppose Newcastle can never have enough goal keepers.Dont mind other areas of the Team. It’s like the Owners of Newcastle have given up on the club. There’s Something going Wrong at Newcastle.Stavley and her husband didn’t just get up and leave the Club the way they Did. Turmoil at Newcastle?

Can anyone see Bruno, Isak and Gordon moving on in the Christmas transfer window. No right winger, no upgrades or cover, save 5 substitute goalkeepers on the bench. They’re hitting the prime of their careers and we look as though we’re going backwards. I don’t think we can blame everything on FFP rules.

What is Paul Mitchell actually doing at Newcastle he’s not done anything nd probably won’t what a waste of time and money GET OUT OF OUR CLUB. Howe will leave and take the England job.

Newcastle sign a player?!
This is as much on Howe as anyone else. Why are we shopping around the Premier league when we could be looking at the European leagues like every other club and actually getting value for our money. Classic Brexit Eddy needs foreign players forced at him before he realises what’s good for the team.

Since Staveley and her man departed it has been Ashley – part 2. As far as i can make out too
many fans are thinking like that. Priority since Botman was injured had to be his replacement but we have dithered, withered, and shivered when the Palace centre-half deal should of
been finalised man. How long did the club have to realise that two of our finest young
examples of footballers needed to be Transferred ?. That itself was a crying shame, and will be very hard for us to equate all that skill into future squads. These people that have the
negotiating shout now should make themselves known to the Fan-Base and get their finger
out. Peter Taylor – 58 Gilsland Ave Wallsend NE280NJ
