Newcastle chief releases statement after Sir John Hall video – “This was not approved”

Newcastle United’s head of communications Lee Marshall has released a statement on ‘X’ (Twitter) distancing the club from a video posted by Conservatives MP Robert Jenrick.

So, if the transfer deadline day wasn’t going bad enough for Newcastle fans, we got a lovely Tweet from Tory MP Robert Jenrick to really set the mood. If you don’t know who Robert Jenrick is, he’s the Tory MP for Newark and is also running for the Conservatives leadership position.

For those who don’t know, Newark is not near Newcastle, so the fact Mr Jenrick has decided to take a little PR trip to St James’ Park has not gone down very well. The video features former Toon owner Sir John Hall, who we assume has set this all up.

Around an hour after the clip was picked up by Newcastle fans, Lee Marshall – the head of comms who sits next to Eddie Howe at Press Conferences – was quick to distance the club from the video, saying: “This was not approved by anyone connected with Newcastle United. The club was told Sir John wished to film a biographical piece on his own life.”

So, it seems old Sir John has gone rogue here and decided to help out some of his mates in the Tory party. It remains to be seen if we’ll see him release his biographical piece in the near future, but I think it’s safe to say no one really cares.

As The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards states,  ‘Newcastle United not happy about being used as a backdrop and promotional vehicle for a Conservative Party MP’ – and rightfully so.

Nothing sums up this transfer window more than a Tory MP being the only right-winger at St James’ Park today!

  1. No politics in sport .. you’re having a laugh. You are aware of who owns the club aren’t you ?? Starmer’s stasi is equally puerile

  2. Can’t say I like the tone of this article at all. Political views aside – Sir John Hall deserves nothing but respect from every NUFC fan for what he did for our club.

I’m old enough to have supported the club before his tenure, so saw first hand just what he did – not just for NUFC but the whole region.

From what you are saying this is a biography of his life – a huge part of his life was NUFC.

If his party of choice is the Tories (mine is not) I couldn’t care less – the man was a giant for NUFC and we all stand on his shoulders today.

    Be more respectful.

  4. Sharpy17 I totally disagree with what you said about John Hall. I lived near him and basically could not stand him and his kin and for the record he put NO money into NUFC but made lots out of NUFC as did his family. How do I know that I was a shareholder and technically still am as I was away doing postgrad in the US and never sold my shares to Ashley and although I lost money its the principle here…

As for the metro centre it was the CoE who funded this and who sold Nufc to Mike Ashley behind Freddy’s back and as I know the Shepherd family personally and went to school with some of them, Charlie’s Freddy was alot more genuine than Mr Hall!
