Newcastle rejected by ‘surprised’ former Man City star – Report

Leroy Sane, the ex-Manchester City winger, has spoken of his ‘surprise’ at being linked to a club with the stature of Newcastle United, according to reports in Germany.

The 65-times capped German international is out of contract in the summer and on paper the right winger would appear to be an excellent solution to United’s right-winger problem – not that he seems likely to end up on Tyneside.

German outlet SportBild, are covering Sane’s contract renewal situation with a new offer said to be on the table but at a reduced salary with Bayern said to be locked in a game of brinkmanship with their player.

Sane is quoted by the magazine as saying he is ‘surprised’ by those links, essentially because he feels he’s worth a higher level than Newcastle United’ and ‘signing for a club in the ‘category’ of the Magpies is simply ‘not an option’ for Sane.

SportBild add: ‘He [Sane] obviously believes he’s of the level of pretty much guaranteed Champions League football and a title battle every season.

Fair enough – although I wasn’t aware that SportBild or Leroy Sane had an axe to grind with United, but it’s fair to say that this is a complete non story and starter as a) his wages would be astronomical and b) he would fail (if the attributed quotes are true) Eddie Howe’s no-******** test.

Additionally, what Sane apparently says is true. United are not at the level of challenging for titles and European competitions regularly…yet. Hopefully Sane is still playing when we do get there, so that he can experience all what the club can offer first-hand.

Still only 28-years-old, the German is an excellent player known for his explosive pace and exceptional dribbling ability, and said to be available for free next summer would make him an attractive proposition to any club looking to fill a right-sided forward gap in its squad.

A league winner in Germany and England, Sane started his career at Schalke before joining City in August 2016 for £37million. He won two Premier League titles before moving back to his homeland for £60million to Bayern Munich, where he has won three Bundesliga titles.

  1. What an other non story.
In latest news: Ronaldo thinks NUFC isn’t at his level:
Mbappe thinks NUFC isn’t at his level…..
    etc etc

  2. Am I missing something here?
He’s a top quality player, and we can’t offer him Champions league.
Why is it an “axe to grind”?
I’m guessing you are not well travelled, because if you were you would know that Germans can be a little more forthright than we may be used to.
