Eddie Howe has confirmed that Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has suffered a setback in his recovery from injury and will miss out next three games.
Wilson is yet to make an appearance in a black and white shirt this season after a procedure on his back over the summer. His last outing came in May and now appears the 32-year-old has muscle tightness that will keep him sidelined for our double header with Chelsea and Arsenal’s visit to St James’ Park next Saturday.
On the setback, Howe said: “We’re going to lose Callum for the next three games. He’s just had some tightness and felt he hasn’t been able to kick on to the last part.”
“He’s felt a tightness in his body. He hasn’t felt like he could kick on. With Callum, we are hypersensitive to any reaction to the work. There’s no injury as such, he’s just not ready to come back”
Craig Hope reports that Eddie Howe and the medical team have revamped their strategy this season and are wanting to make sure players are back to 100% fitness before playing instead of rushing them back.
It’s another unfortunate loss for Newcastle as we again will rely on an out of form Alexander Isak for goals this weekend and only emphasises the need for another attacker who can stay fit.

They got to sell wilson .. and bring in a striker

Hypersensitive alright, don’t rush this crock back before the end of the season😂
I wouldn’t be paying him his fat salary for doing nothing, Marcelino the second.
Don’t think I will go into work today I overstretched my little finger doing some gardening, hope my employer will be this generous to me🤔

Get’s back to what we’ve agreed before Joseph knowing when to move a player on and Howe being to loyal and wanting to keep rewarding players that should have been peddled

Your right, but just get hacked off with all the rubbish stories about us, some of the players don’t know they are born.
We should be saying publicly we are not going after Guehi at all as he prefers Liverpool and good riddance to Palace and him, we should not be drawn into stupid protracted affairs like we were in the summer.

I get and share frustration on Wilson. Remind me of the offers nufc had for him in summer??
Sure don’t pay Wilson and see how quickly that ends up in court. Reality is that he’s nufc’s employee till June and hopefully nufc move on from the sorry saga after that ( at the latest)
Why would the club show their hands on guehi. The best approach is to just go about business, let the media spout their tosh and avoid the type of circus Parrish created in the summer.
Agree that they should get business done quickly and would add that in January, Mitchell won’t have the rationale that he’s new.

By all accounts there was in January alongside Trippier and Almiron but Staveley backed Howe with wanting to keep them huge mistake if true a bit like Ashworth not getting backed when he wanted to start the trading process that was a big mistake if true and it gets back to what few fans are starting to say big fans of Howe but he is to loyal and that’s the issue it’s starting to hold us back

I did say summer and ‘by all accounts’ is a bit flimsy, but looking back at jan it was as risky to sell as it was to keep him given the injuries. Nufc flipped the coin (and lost)
Trippier was similar. Looking past his best for sure. livramento as much as I rate him still has a way to go tho’.
I just don’t get why fans need to pigeon hole those who disagree with them. My affinity is to the club; players, managers, owners etc come and go.
I think the scapegoating of Howe or Mitchell or whichever player is in the doghouse this week is shortsighted as the challenges are way bigger than individuals and that’s why the structure nufc have put in place feels right but will take time to produce. Time will tell if the individuals are up to it.
Out of interest where do you think nufc should be that you feel Howe is stopping progress. Given that they have the 10th highest wage bill in the PL and are constrained from growing too quickly I’d suggest competing for the minor euro places is about right

Ooops 8th highest

Jonesy I’m not making scapegoats of anyone just being realistic I’ve said many times big fan of Howe concern I’ve got is he is overly loyal like I’ve commented on previous posts with the conversation I had with a Bournemouth fan after last seasons game who said exactly the same that’s his flaw like the chapter in Peter Graves book here to compete about Howe’s time at Bournemouth after one promotion he wanted to reward the players that got them there did Kevin Keegan reward David Kelly when his 28 goals helped got us promotion no he sold him to Wolves and Peter Beardsley came in I can well believe Ashworth wanted to start the trading process with couple of comments he has made one of them on the amazon documentary on us we have an ageing squad which brings us on to Anthony Gordon other one on SSN its not sustainable to keep buying the older players we have Howe has mentioned FFP plenty times but how much wages have been paid out to players eg Ritchie Dummet Gillespie Wilson even Ruddy because there great around the place Howe admitted himself we couldn’t do the Slobloszi deal because of FFP yet if Ashworth wanted to get the process in place of player trading we might have got him especially when we had champions league to offer Howe wanted to go to a more possession based game yet we extended Almiron and Jolinton contract and ended selling Anderson because we got ourselves in a FFP mess which getting back to Ashworth could have been avoided if he got backed like I said I’m not going out of my way to make scapegoat of Howe or players just being realistic and when I look at the league this season think it’s been an opportunity missed
