Anthony Gordon Extends Newcastle United Contract: Focused on Winning Silverware

Some fabulous news broke on Wednesday morning, and I like all you other Newcastle United fans could not be happier. There has been a bit of doom and gloom surrounding St James’ Park as of late and we needed some respite in the papers to help brighten our day after last weekend’s loss against … well Brighton (please forgive me).

Gordon Extends His Stay

Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon has signed a long-term contract extension, solidifying his place at the club. The 23-year-old, who joined the Magpies from Everton in January 2023, has quickly become a key figure in Eddie Howe’s squad. Since his arrival, Gordon has scored 15 goals and registered 11 assists in 74 appearances and will be sure to as to that tally as long as he does not suffer any accidents at work, or sustain any injuries.

Gordon’s move to Newcastle marked the first time he played European football, with six appearances in the UEFA Champions League. He has also impressed on the international stage, being named Player of the Tournament at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in 2023, where England triumphed over Spain in the final.

His continued progress earned him a senior England debut in March 2024, and he now has seven caps, having also been part of the squad that finished as runners-up at UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany.

Gordon expressed his excitement about the club’s direction, saying, “The club’s in a great place. Since the takeover, it’s just been up and up. Me and the gaffer are a perfect match in terms of style of play, and I love it here.”

Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe praised Gordon’s growth, noting his high work ethic and special bond with the fans. Sporting director Paul Mitchell highlighted Gordon’s commitment to continuous improvement, describing him as a crucial part of the club’s ambitious plans for the future. This contract extension underscores Gordon’s desire to help Newcastle United secure their first trophy in decades, a goal he considers a “massive” personal ambition.

Our Perspective

I think like all you Toon fans out there reading this, we are absolutely ecstatic about Gordon extending his contract. Gordon has finally broken into the England team off the back of a brilliant season Tyneside and it is well-known other clubs were circling for his signature.

Now he has put pen to paper Newcastle fans can relax as it will now take a massive transfer fee to prise our star man out of our hands. We haven’t started the season as well as we would have hoped and the summer transfer window was very underwhelming. The squad hasn’t really been improved at all so keeping our best players is vital.

Of course, the board now needs to play their part and back our manager Eddie Howe, as the squad need bolstering and we need more quality around Gordon if we are going to kick on and challenge at the very top.
