Lewis Miley has signed a lucrative deal with sportswear giants Under Armour, with The Mail revealing that the teenage sensation will replace Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold as their ‘face of the north.’
The 18-year-old had been tied down to Adidas, but Under Armour have offered the midfielder a long-term deal and lucrative contact after losing Alexander-Arnold to Adidas.
Miley recently returned from a three-month period on the sidelines after a freak footy injury over the summer. The setback forced him to sit out of pre-season – a cruel blow given back issues cut short the end of his 2023/24 campaign – but he’s been back on the bench for our past three league games and came on in the closing stages of our 2-0 win over Chelsea last Wednesday.
As we know, the midfield sensation enjoyed a stunning breakthrough season at St James’ Park last term, scoring his first Premier League goal, starting at PSG in the Champions League and setting up our only goal in a 2-1 defeat to AC Milan across his 26 senior appearancs across all competitions.
Discussing Miley’s development behind the scenes and recent comeback from a broken foot, Howe said: “He’s an outstanding player. He’s shown that coming back to training. You expect to see some rustiness from him technically or some physical development still to go.
“He’s come back looking like a changed athlete. He looks a lot more solid and filled out, which will naturally happen when he gets older. But it looks like he has used his time away from the training pitch really well.
“Technically he’s been really, really good. I’ve got no issue with his game. He’s in a really good place. But he’s very young and had a couple of injuries that have reflected on us overusing him last year. We don’t want him to get injured again. Small steps initially but hopefully he can progress into playing some big minutes for us.”
