After his exceptional recent run of form, Alan Shearer has tipped Lewis Hall to receive his first call up for the England National Team after reports suggested he could be selected ahead of the November international break.
Hall, who was recently named both Player of the Match against Arsenal and Player of the Month for Newcastle, could have forced himself into Lee Carsley’s plans for his final games as England manager, and now has Shearer’s backing.
“Lewis Hall is not far away from an England call-up. If he does get a call-up, he will have deserved it. If he doesn’t get one this time and he keeps playing the way he is, then it won’t be long”, Shearer said.
“Lewis is not just knocking – he is banging on the door of the senior team. I watched him closely at the weekend and he had a fantastic game against Bukayo Saka, one of the best players in the Premier League and Arsenal’s danger man. He had a great game and hardly gave him a kick and rightfully was given player of the match.”
Left back has proven to be a bit of a problem area for the Three Lions. Preferred choice Luke Shaw is struggling to maintain fitness, whilst the now-retired Kieran Trippier and Trent Alexander-Arnold are much more comfortable elsewhere on the pitch. A young natural LB could be the final piece of the England puzzle.
Hall’s case for the senior call up also has backing based off his history at club level and in the England system. The 20-year-old has won five caps for the Under-21s, and is slowly becoming a staple in Eddie Howe’s starting XI in the Premier League.
With Carsley’s call-ups set to be confirmed at 2pm today, Shearer clearly believes that if it doesn’t come during this international break, then it’s only a matter of time before the former Chelsea talent becomes the undeniable option.
Hall could become just the latest Magpie to make his way into the England Senior Squad, after Trippier, Nick Pope, Callum Wilson, Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento were all picked by Carsley and his predecessor Gareth Southgate in recent times.
