Fabian Schar asked if he’ll leave Newcastle next summer by Swiss media

Fabian Schar may have retired from international duty, but he’s been speaking to the Swiss media this week about his future at Newcastle United.

As things stand, the 32-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and in a position to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January (ahead of a free transfer next summer). However, it sounds like he has no plans on leaving anytime soon.

Schar insists he would “love to stay” at a club where “everything is right” for him, suggesting contract talks will not be complicated if the club offer him extension beyond 2025.

Speaking to Swiss outlet BlueSport, Schar said:“I feel really comfortable at Newcastle, I’ve been playing for years and I have a coach who relies on me. Everything is right for me. I would love to stay. The club and the coach know what they have in me,”

“Basically, things have always gone relatively quickly in recent years. The club wanted to keep me, I wanted to stay. That’s why it was never a big deal.”

Based on a recent report from The Mail’s Craig Hope, Toon chiefs have already held initial talks with the representatives of Schar and Emil Krafth – another player out of contract next summer – over an extension, so it seems everything is on track to keep the centre-back on Tyneside for at least another season.

  1. I have questions about schar but irrespective of that and if the club do bring in a new RCB an extension feels worthwhile. I just hope he and the club are in a position for that extension to be as a backup

  2. Jonesy,
Any questions you may have about Schar have had many years to be resolved, either he’s an asset or he isn’t. My vote goes with the manager and all other fans, he’s pure class. As further confirmation, if any was needed, the greatest clown to “manage” us had him on the bench! ‘Nuff said.
