Fabrizio Romano: Newcastle considering move for Chelsea midfielder – Surely not?

Newcastle are said to be one of a number of Premier League clubs considering a January loan bid for Chelsea midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Dewsbury-Hall, who moved from Championship winners Leicester to the Blues for a reported £30m, hasn’t enjoyed the greatest of stints at his new club so far, playing just 43 minutes of football in the league so far.

But according to Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing, Newcastle could be one of many teams able to provide the 26-year-old with a chance of salvaging his season.

Romano stated: “The former Leicester City midfielder has endured a nightmare spell and desperately needs the game time that the Magpies could offer.”

He later added that Manchester United, Spurs, Fulham, Aston Villa, Brighton and Brentford also hold some interest in Dewsbury-Hall, with Chelsea’s current squad depth definitely affording them the luxury to offload a player of Dewsbury-Hall’s calibre so easily.

It remains to be seen how the midfielder would fit into Eddie Howe’s plans, especially considering the fantastic depth currently on display, with Sandro Tonali and Lewis Miley currently being made to wait for starts after impressive displays from Bruno Guimaraes, Sean Longstaff, Joe Willock and Joelinton.

As we saw with Lewis Hall last year, a loan move with an obligation to buy may be something that appeals from a PSR perspective, it just feels like an unlikely transfer given our midfield options and need to spend on a right-winger and centre-back instead.
