Darren Eales replacement lined up as Newcastle eye former Arsenal chief – Report

According to Craig Hope at The Mail, former Arsenal CEO Vinai Venkatesham is believed to be firmly in the running to take up the same role at Newcastle United after leaving the Gunners earlier in the year.

Venkatesham is close to our Chief Commercial Officer Peter Silverstone after the two worked together at the North London club for seven years.

Newcastle are on the hunt for a new CEO after the devastating news that Darren Eales would be forced to step back from his role being diagnosed with a chronic form of blood cancer.

Venkatesham is one of the names cropping up and the 43-year-old has already stated his desire to start a new project after the work he did with Silverstone at Arsenal.

Venkatesham has a strong background in women’s football and commercial deals, claiming to have signed deals totalling £2bn in his career. He is also a qualified management accountant, which could be useful in a world of profit and sustainability rules.

For any ambitious director, Newcastle are understandably an exciting project at the minute and, if those at the top can finally settle in and get the finances sorted, the sky is truly the limit.
