Bruno Guimaraes has been discussing his “dream” scenario at Newcastle United, previous links with Man City and his post-match chats with Pep Guardiola.
Speaking to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, Bruno admits he is loving life on Tyneside and thriving as an “idol” who is not only playing Premier League football but captaining the club he clearly adores.
He then moved on to Man City links, feeling they show he is playing at a “high level” but are “nothing more” than rumours after the champions failed to activate his previous release clause earlier in the summer.
On his chats with Guardiola, he insists that they only spoke briefly after a post-match interview at the Etihad last March, where Bruno shared his admiration for Pep’s work and Pep complimented the 27-year-old on his performances.
“I believe that at my club I am an idol and I have a lot of respect,” Bruno said. “I am the captain of Newcastle and it is something that if you had asked me three years ago, my biggest dream would have been to play in the Premier League. Playing, being an idol, being captain is something wonderful. I really like Newcastle.
Discussing the links to Man City and his chats with Guardiola, he added: “Of course, having Manchester City’s suggestions shows that I am at a high level, but it was nothing more than suggestions.
“I know that Guardiola likes my football, it is normal to have great coaches who admire your football. We have spoken once after the interview, I praised his work, he praised my work, but it was nothing more than that.”
Bruno is clearly flattered by Man City’s reported interest and praise from Pep, but he’s also loving life at Newcastle, thriving off the adulation he receives and contracted to the club until 2028. Hopefully he stays for many years to come, helps us become regulars in Europe again and lifts a trophy one day to cement his legacy amongst his adoring fanbase.
