“Big blow” – Howe confirms operation and issues injury update on Wilson and Trippier

Eddie Howe has been speaking to the media this morning, offering an update on the injury ahead next week’s Monday-night clash with West Ham.

The boss confirmed that Emil Krafth has had an operation on his collar bone and looks set to be out for 6-8 weeks, describing this as a “big blow” that will rule him out of the festive period.

Howe also revealed that Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier have a chance of being in the squad, although it sounds like the latter is more likely to feature at this stage.

Both were expected back after the recent international break and Wilson will be assessed in training today, but Trippier is “slightly closer” and “looked sharp” during yesterday’s session. Apart from that, “we’re OK” on the injury front, with all internationals returning unscathed.

Howe on Callum Wilson – “He’s doing well. We anticipate he’s going to train with the group today. Whether he’s quite there for West Ham, let’s see. But he has to get through the next few days in training first.

“I think that the most important thing is that Callum does come back and when he does come back, he’s in a good place to contribute and to make a difference. We know his importance but he’s obviously at a delicate stage of his return because you’ve got to manage the last parts correctly. We need to learn from previous issues that we’ve had and try and keep.”

Howe on Kieran Trippier – “He’s slightly closer than Callum [Wilson]. He trained well yesterday and felt good. No ill effects, looked sharp. That was his first day of training so again, we’re in a similar position in that right at the end of the rehab you’ve got to navigate the last few days well.”

Howe on Emil Krafth –Just Emil Krafth who has had an operation, we anticipate he’s gonna be out for around 6-8 weeks. So that’s a big blow for us to lose Emil – he’s been such a consistent performer. So he will continue his rehab but apart from that we’re OK.”
Howe on our training camp in Saudi Arabia: “It was a good trip. The weather was really good for us and it was nice to spend time with the group. We had some intense days. The players worked hard but it was a whirlwind trip.”
