Miguel Almiron has become a surprise loan target for a number of clubs ahead of the January window, according to reports today.
The Paraguay international has fallen out of favour with the management team at St. James Park, with many frustrated fans hoping the winger may have been sold to Saudi Arabia last summer.
However, a move that keeps him in the English top flight – if not in Europe – may be on the cards for the 30-year-old who could be packing his bags next month.
Premier League trio eyeing Miguel Almiron?
According to The Sun, Newcastle could allow Almiron, who has made just eight appearances this season, to leave on loan this winter, despite our preference to cash in on the South American.
Premier League trio Leicester City, Wolves and Crystal Palace are said to be just some of the teams keeping an eye on Almiron, who is thought to be ‘desperate’ to find a new club.
The report states that official offers are expected to arrive soon, with the three English sides preparing to face continental competition from Marseille and Stuttgart.
The right time to move for all parties?
Jacob Murphy has climbed above Almiron in Eddie Howe’s pecking order down the right, though he too is yet to win over chunks of the fanbase despite his impressive output in recent weeks.
On top o that, reports suggest a new right-winger will be targeted in January, with reports in Belgium today suggesting we’ve held positive talks with the agent of PSV star Johan Bakayoko.
It’s a damning sign for Almiron and with the Paraguayan now 30, it certainly feels the best time to move him off the books, freeing up some money on the wage bill and a squad place heading into the second half of the season.
For all parties, it feels like the right time for his five-year tenure with Toon to end, giving him a new challenge and the chance to play regularly after a frustrating 12 months on Tyneside.
